Larry Zickefoose and the #3 car Larry Zickefoose and the #3 The Batmobile on the trailer The Batmobile is on the right

These pictures were taken in May 1978 at Meyers Speedway, Houston, Texas. That is me Larry Zickefoose driving the Batmobile. I drove the  Batmobile in 1978 when it was part of a traveling car show. I took care of it washing etc during the tour. I had just turned 18 years old. The automobile thrill show was named Super Stars Auto Thrill Show.

Program  Program

I rarely drove the car very far other than around the pits to wash it and to stage it for the show. It being the "Batmobile" I was very careful with it. One of the main reasons was that I am 5'11" and I could not see to my right when turning corners because of the center arch that separated the left side of the cockpit from the right and Robin wasn't there to spot for me!

The paint on it was a fuzz type paint. I washed the car with a horse brush. I would brush it down with a water hose and a brush like I had brushed my horse with in the past. It had a very large I thought was a mercury motor.  If I am not mistaken the motor was painted mercury gold. My brother said it had a 390 c.i. motor in it. It was a standard with a four speed on the floor and it had a heavy clutch pedal. It was pretty tough taking off from a standstill without barking the tires.

None of the weapons worked but they were all labeled.  I don't remember a lot of instrumentation on the dash I just remember toggle switches.  Also, I don't remember anything on the passenger side. None of the gadgets worked. It did have a 60's style chromed foot gas pedal. The car was owned by Warner Brothers from what I understood, they were co-producing our show.

Enjoy!
